SHEENA MARCHES ON IN SHIRE TITLE DEFENCE
Sheena Wood, winner of the Aberdeenshire women's county golf championship
for the past three years and four times in all, is through to Sunday morning's
semi-finals of this year's tournament at Kemnay.
Miss Wood (Aberdeen Ladies), a former Scotland international player and
the leading qualifier, beat clubmate Ellie Whyte by 4 and 2 and Catherine
Miller (Stonehaven) 3 and 1 to reach the last four.
She will now play Lorraine Coleman (Peterhead) for a place in the afternoon
final.
A repeat of last year's final is still a possibility because Julie Henderson
(Inverurie), who went down to Sheena Wood in the title decider 12 months
ago after being two up on the 17th tee, is also through to the semi-finals.
She plays Laura McLardy (Murcar).

CHAMPION SHEENA LEADS THE ABERDEENSHIRE QUALIFIERS
ABERDEEN
Ladies' top player Sheena Wood is on course for a fourth win in a row
in the Aberdeenshire women's county golf championship after claiming the
No 1 seed position in the match-play stages with a round of 77 (two over
CSS) in the qualifying competition at Kemnay Golf Club on Friday naight.
Sheena last year became the first player in 25 years to complete a hat-trick
of title wins when she came back from two down on the 17th tee to beat
Julie Henderson (Inverurie) at the 19th in the final.
Julie has qualified in third place this year with a 79 and a repeat of
the Cruden Bay final is possible because she and Sheila are in different
halves of the draw.
There were two Banchory members about the top four, past champion Linda
Urquhart getting the No 2 spot with a 78 while Ann Smart had the same
score as Julie Henderson but had to settle for being fourth qualifier
after a comparison of inward halves.
