AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Defending champion Sharon Lambie (Troon Ladies) and Scotland international
player Laura Moffat (West Kilbride), the two top seeds, stayed on course
today to meet in tomorrow afternoon's final of the Ayrshire Ladies County
Golf Association championship at Troon Portland.
Miss Lambie, bidding for an eighth county title, had 7 and 6 wins over
clubmate Irene Smith and Rosalind Purdom (Prestwick St Nicholas) to earn
a semi-final meeting on Thursday morning with Catherine Malcolm (Prestwick
St Cuthbert).
Miss Moffat, home from four years at the University of California Los
Angeles, beat Shona Malcolm (Prestwick St Cuthbert) 5 and 4 and Charlie
Taylor (Troon Ladies) by 7 and 5. Laura, who last played for Scotland
in the 2001 home internationals, will play Morag McQueen (Largs) for a
place in her first county final.
