Northern Counties Championship
TEENAGER Kerri Harper from Inverness toppled the defending champion,
New Zealander Liz McKinnon (Nairn) in the quarter-finals of the Northern
Counties women's county championship at Tain GC yesterday (Sunday).
Kerri, winner of the Inverness women's club championship and the Grampian
TV girls' title last year, qualified in eighth place compared with the
No 1 status of Mrs McKinnon but she staged a stunning comeback to beat
the champion on the last green.
Kiwi Liz was two up with three holes to play but lost them all.
Miss Harper now plays Mary Smith of the host club in the first semi-final
this morning (Mon) at 9am while Jenny Milne (Elgin) tackles Scotland veteran
women's international player Christine McAndrew (Nairn Dunbar), the No
2 qualifier, in the second tie at 9.10.
