Stirling and Clackmannan County Championship
Lynn
Kenny wins title
STIRLING University student Lynn Kenny, pictured right, from Dunblane,
one of the favourites for the forthcoming Centenary Scottish women's championship
over the Old Course, St Andrews, underlined the fact that she is running
into form at the right time by winning the Stirling and Clackmannan women's
title for a third time on a cold, wet and windy night at Glenbervie Golf
Club (last night, Friday).
Miss Kenny beat former Scottish and British champion and past Curtis Cup
star, Mrs Alison Davidson (Stirling) by 2 and 1. In the final analysis,
it was Lynn who putted the better on the night and that tipped the scales
her way.
Lynn, the leading qualifier, was never headed after winning the opening
hole but could never relax against a dogged opponent. Alison, who qualified
in seventh place, was two down at the turn but got one back and it was
not until the 17th green that Miss Kenny was able to clinch victory to
add to the county titles she won in 1998 and 2001.
Mrs Davidson won the championship as Alison Rose three years in a row
from 1990 and 1992 but has now lost two finals in her married name. She
was beaten 12 months ago by Heather Stirling, now a professional campaigning
on the US Futures Tour.

KENNY v DAVIDSON FINAL
TWO former Scottish women's champions, Lynn Kenny (Dunblane) and Alison
Davidson (Stirling) will meet in Friday evening's (5.30pm) final of the
Stirling and Clackmannan women's county championship at Glenbervie Golf
Club.
They have never previously met in the final of the county championship
which Miss Kenny won in 1998 and 2001 while Mrs Davidson won the title
as Alison Rose three years in a row from 1990 and 1992 but lost in last
year's final to Heather Stirling.
Stirling University student Lynn, the leading qualifier for the match-play
stages, beat youngster Laura Aitken (Falkirk Tryst) by 4 and 3 in last
night's first semi-final with roughly level par play.
Alison Davidson, the No 7 qualifier, was also around the par mark in winning
by 5 and 3 against teenager Vicki Stirling, a Stirling clubmate.
