SUSAN MILLAR IS NEW FIFE WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMP

FIFE WOMEN'S COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP _ Drumoig _ First round _ K Sharp (Kirkcaldy) beat K Keir (Elie & Earlsferry) 5 and 4, P Simpson (Lundin Ladies) beat L Fury (Thornton) 6 and 4, S Millar (Kirkcaldy) beat D Ford (Scotscraig) 4 and 3, J Duncan (Balbirnie Park) beat N Glennie (Kinross) 3 and 1, J Carthew (Ladybank) beat L Fair (Pitreavie) 2 holes, K Milne (Dunfermline) beat D Johnston (St Regulus) 5 and 4, L Bennett (Ladybank) beat M Campsie (Scotscraig) 6 and 5, F Lockhart (St Regulus) beat G Davidson (Saline) 5 and 3.

Quarter-finals _ Simpson beat Sharp 2 and 1, Millar beat Duncan 5 and 4, Carthew beat Milne 2 and 1, Lockhart beat Bennett 2 and 1.

Semi-finals _ Millar beat Simpson 3 and 2, Carthew beat Lockhart at 19th.

Final _ Millar beat Carthew at 19th.

INTRO

KIRKCALDY player Susan Millar won the Fife women's county golf championship at Drumoig yesterday (Sunday)for the first time. In an 18-hole final, played in high winds, Susan beat Jo Carthew (Ladybank), also a first time finalist, with a par 3 at the 20th hole.

Susan, the No 5 qualifier and a regular member of the Fife county team, had gone three ahead on the outward half but ran into bunker trouble on the second nine and Jo, the No. 3 seed, was able to square the match at the 17th.

Miss Carthew had gone to an extra hole in her morning semi-final when she won through at the 19th against Fiona Lockhart (St Regulus)in a match between two players who work at Drumoig. Jo is sales and bookings officer at the Scottish National Golf Academy; Fiona is administration assistant at the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association headquarters.
