LYNNE LEADS NORTH OF SCOTLAND QUALIFIERS

CRUDEN Bay player Lynne Terry, an accountant who acts as the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association treasurer, worked out her golfing figures so well at Downfield, Dundee yesterday (Monday) that she ended the qualifying round of the North of Scotland women's championship as the No 1 seed in the match-play draw.
Lynne's round of two-over-par 76 included birdies at the fifth and 15th in halves of 38.
"I three-putted the last two greens but I couldn't complain really because I had chipped in at an earlier hole and I had never played the course before because it was too wet for a practice round on Sunday evening," said Lynne.
"I just hope that history does not repeat itself. I was leading qualifier in the championship when it was played at Deeside 12 months ago and I lost in the first round of the match-play."
A shot behind Miss Terry on 77 came Angus county player Lynne Fotheringham, several times Monifieth club champion, and Frances Neish (Meldrum House), recently beaten in the final of the North veterans' championship final at Banchory.
Aberdeenshire players added up to 10 of the 16 championship qualifiers, including title-holder Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) who had a 79, one better than the player she beat in last year's final, county team-mate Lyndsey Devenish (Cruden Bay) who made it into the match-play with nothing to spare.
Aberdeenshire county captain Pat Wilson and her daughter Carol, both Murcar members, qualified with 79s and are in the bottom half of the draw.
Surprise non-qualifiers included Cara Gruber (Royal Dornoch), a former Northern Counties champion, with an 81 and Perth & Kinross county team players Jane Yellowlees and Dawn Butchart with 83 and 84 respectively.
