Two winners of the Highland Open

THERE are two winners of the Highland Open women's amateur tournament
following this year's event at Pitlochry. That's because the final
between Jillian Milne (Milnathort) and Louise Fraser from Kingsknowe
had to be cancelled because of lightning over the Perthshire course.
Recently, an Aberdeen woman was hit by lightning on the Duff House
Royal course at Banff and spent the night in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
for observation.
The Highland Open organisers decided that they could not extend the
tournament by an extra day to play the finals of the three categories.
In the morning semi-finals, Jillian Milne was taken to a second extra
hole before beating fellow Perthshire county player Emma Napper.
In the other semi-final, Louise Fraser was four up after eight holes
against Swedish visitor, Maria Mansson. Then Maria fought back and
should have square the match at the 12th.
But she didn't and Louise pulled away again with birdies at the 15th
and 16th for a 3 and 2 win.
Semi-final results:
SCRATCH - Jillian Milne (Milnathort) beat Emma Napper (Craigie Hill)
at 20th; Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) beat Maria Mansson 3 and 2.
SILVER HANDICAP - Penny Deakin (Oakhampton) (13) beat Linda Scotland
(Prestonfield) (14) 3 and 2; Pat Campbell (Downfield) (11) beat Sue
Caton (Kingsknowe) (12) 1 hole.
BRONZE HANDICAP - Viv Allen (West Malling) (23) beat Louise Lauder
(Pitlochry) (23) 6 and 5; Kay McGalie (Belvoir Park) (23) beat Elke
Pleasance (Pitlochry) (23) 1 hole.
