BP Scottish Junior Women's Open Amateur Stroke-play Championship

Attached is a list of competitors and the draw for the BP Scottish Junior Women's Open Amateur Stroke-play Championship at Baberton Golf Club on July 30 and 31. The draw is for first two rounds on the Tuesday. A fresh draw will be made for the final round on the Wednesday when the leaders will go out last.

There is a strong international flavour to the field of 81 with entries from Germany, Iceland, Bermuda and Russia. There was even an inquiry from Thailand from a girl aged nine and with a handicap of 12 (which is better than our own Carly Booth from Comrie: age 10 & handicap 13).

Notwithstanding the overseas challenge, one would have to say the winner of the title will come from the Scotland squad chosen for the European junior women's team championship in Moscow. One notable absentee will be Vikki Laing who will be on duty with the Great Britain & Ireland team in the Curtis Cup match at Fox Chapel, Pittsburgh on August 3 and 4. The other Moscow-bound players in the Baberton field are: Susannah Laing (Troon Ladies), Louise Kenney (Pitreavie), Clare Queen (Drumpellier), Pam Feggans (Barassie) and Jenna Wilson (Strathaven).

As far as handicaps go, Clare Queen and Kristin Elsa Erlendsdottir (Iceland) are the backmarkers on scratch. Louise Kenney comes next with one of a handicap.
