England’s Hayley Davis reaches quarter-finals of French U21 championship

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Dorset’s Hayley Davis carries England’s hopes into the quarter-finals of the French lady junior championship at St Cloud, Paris - where she faces the title-holder and No 1 seed, Leona Maguire of Ireland.
Hayley has scored two good wins to reach the final eight, despite difficult conditions of cold and rain. In the first round she defeated Spain’s Mireia Prat 5/4 and followed up with a 2/1 win over Daisy Nielsen of Denmark.
The 17-year-old girl international from Ferndown is playing in this event for the first time and is England’s sole survivor in the quarter-finals. Hayley had a very successful season in 2009, winning the Scottish U16 strokeplay champion and the Liphook Scratch Cup, while reaching the semi-finals of the English girls’ championship and the quarter-finals of the British girls.
She is a member of the English Women’s Golf Association Performance squad. English champion Charlie Douglass (Brocket Hall) also reached the championship’s second matchplay round after beating Lara Katzy (Germany) 3/1. However, her challenge ended when she was beaten 6/4 by Spain’s Rocio Sanchez.
Three other members of the EWGA squad reached the matchplay stages but were all beaten in the first round, with two matches going to the 18th and the other to the 16th.
