BECKY BREWERTON IS NAMED
WELSH PROFESSIONAL
PLAYER OF YEAR

Ryder Cup Wales hosted their annual gala dinner and awards at The Vale Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort where The Towergate Welsh Golf Awards 2007, presented by the Golf Union of Wales, were announced.
There were four categories in total and the LET’s Becky Brewerton scooped the award for The Towergate Professional Player of the Year. This year has been a break-out one for the popular 25-year-old from Abergele. She landed her first Ladies European Tour title in style at the Ladies English Open, in association with Golf Punk, at Chart Hills in Kent back in July.
In addition, Becky became the first Welsh woman ever to play for the European team in The Solheim Cup which was played at Halmstad Golfklubb in Sweden from 14-16 September, qualifying for the fifth automatic spot on the 12-woman team.
Unfortunately the European side lost by 16-12 to the USA, but Becky made a superb debut, earning 1.5 points from three matches.
Writing in her monthly column in the UK’s Lady Golfer magazine, Becky said: “I am desperate to be on the side in 2009 – and be part of a victorious team.
“Hopefully I can use both the satisfaction at my own performance and the disappointment at defeat to spur me on to qualify for the team. In their different ways, they should provide plenty of motivation.”
Becky currently lies in 10th place on the New Star Money List with earnings of €135,785.93 but her best finish in this regard was in 2004, her rookie year, when she finished eighth on the order of merit.
There are two more events to be played on the Ladies European Tour in 2007, in India and Dubai in December, meaning that Becky has the opportunity to achieve even more this year – and to close it with a top ten finish on the New Star Money List.
In the other award categories, 23-year-old Llewellyn Matthews was presented with The Towergate Amateur Player of the Year.
Conwy Golf Club won The Towergate Welsh Golf Club of the Year and Neil Matthews won The Towergate GDW / PGA Professional of the Year.
