Krystle sparkles with joint fifth
finish in Cleveland Classic

Krystle Caithness from Cellardyke, Fife, a freshman student at Georgia University, finished joint fifth in the Cleveland Classic women's college tournament which finished at University Club, Baton Rouge in Louisiana today.
It was the 19-year-old's best performances of the 2007-2008 college season with scores of 75, 72 and 72 for a total of three-over-par total of 219 over a par-72 course of 6,511yd.
Krystle, pictured right, who started her final round at the fourth hole had four birdies - at the sixth, 12th, 17th and first - compared with one in her first round and three birdies in her second.
She was the leading scorer for the Georgia team who finished sixth (898) behind winners Florida State (884).
It was an encouraging weekend for Krystle as she builds up her level of performance for her debut appearance for Great Britain & Island in the Curtis Cup match against the United States at the end of May - and over her home course: the Old Course, St Andrews where she is a member of the St Regulus Club.
Sweden's Caroline Westrup (Oklahoma State University) won the Cleveland Classic by four strokes with scores of 73, 68 and 67 for an eight-under-par total of 208. Caroline was a member of the Continent of Europe team who inflicted a record Vagliano Trophy defeat on GB&I in last year's match at Fairmont St Andrews.
The Cleveland Classic was, all in all, a good tournament for the European competitors. Apart from Caroline Westrup and Krystle Caithness, Belgium's Benedicte Toumpsin (South Carolina) tied with the Scot for fifth place on 219 with three rounds of 73.
Also, in joint eighth place, was Germany's Steffi Kirchmayr (College of Charleston) on 222.
+Apologies to Kirkwoodgolf.co.uk readers who may have read our earlier report this evening from this tournament. GolfStat, the excellent website service of news and scores from the American college circuits, obviously had problems keeping up with the scorecards coming in from a shotgun start/finish to the Cleveland Classic.
At first, they credited Krystle Caithness with a final round of 74 - including a double bogey 5 at the short 13th - and placed her joint sixth. Only later was Krystle's score amended to a 72 - deleting the double bogey 5 - and placing her joint fifth.
