Vikki Laing walking the LPGA Tour
tightrope ... 35th after first round

Musselburgh exile Vikki Laing is lying joint 35th in a field of 133 after scoring a one-over-par 73 in the first round of the last LPGA Tour Regional qualifying competition at Plantation Golf & Country Club, Venice in Florida today.
The 27-year-old former Scottish girls champion and past Curtis Cup player had already failed to qualify for the LPGA Final Qualifying School at Daytona Beach from December 1 to 7.
She was thrown a lifeline with a place in this final eliminator but is under severe pressure right away. Only the top 30 and ties at the end of four rounds will advance to the Final Q School.
Former English amateur champion and another past Curtis Cup player, Kiran Matharu is much worse placed than the Scot. Kiran could do no better than an 82 which made her 131st in the field of 133.
Two South Koreans, Moah Chang and Sunny Oh, lead the field on 68, one shot ahead of Spain's Beatriz Recari and Susan Nam.
