GRANT CARNIE JOINT RUNNER-UP
BEFORE WINTER BREAK IN USA


Grant Carnie from Ellon maintained his very good form in the first half of the American 2008-2009 college golf season by finishing joint second in a field of 73 players at the Lincoln Memorial University Fall Invitational college golf tournament at Tazewell, Tennessee this week.
Carnie is a golf scholarship student at Brevard College, North Carolina as are fellow Scots Craig Galloway from East Calder, West Lothian and Aberdeen's Tom Rennie, a member of Deeside Golf Club.
Carnie had rounds of 71 and 70 for a three-under-par total of 141 over the 6,771yd, par-72 course. He finished six shots behind the runaway winner, Kent George (Lenoir-Rhyne University) who had rounds of 67 and 68 for nine-under-par 135.
Galloway gained a creditable top-20 finish with scores of 74 and 75 for 149, which saw him earn a sahe of 18th place.
Rennie, a first-year student, scored 83 and 80 for 163 and was placed 59th.
Brevard College finished a very close third in the team event, contested by 14 college squads.. They totalled 595, one shot more than hosts Lincoln Memorial University and Tusculum College who both totalled 594. Lincoln Memorial won the play-off.
For Carnie, Galloway and Rennie, the competitive golf season shuts down now for the winter break. Their next tournament for Brevard College is at Salisbury, North Carolina on March 2.
