French junior lady championship qualifying rounds

A Tidy performance by Kelly

is England's best at St Cloud

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Lancashire’s Kelly Tidy was England’s leading scorer on the first day of the French lady junior championship at St Cloud Golf Club, near Paris.
The 17-year-old from Royal Birkdale, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, shot a two-over par 73 in the first round of stroke-play qualifying and is currently in ninth place.
Kelly, who represented Europe in last year’s junior Ryder Cup after reaching the final of the British girls open championship at Monifieth, had three consecutive birdies in her round from the 14th.
Defending champion Rachel Jennings is two shots behind after opening her campaign with a four-over 75, which included just one birdie. She is lying 25th. After 36 holes of stroke-play the leading 32 players will qualify for the match-play stages of the championship. That means the other four members of the English Women’s Golf Association squad need to improve their positions in the second round to keep their title hopes alive.
