Clyburn win French

junior finals

Leona Maguire, one of the Irish talented twins, won the French lady junior championship at St Cloud Golf Club, Paris today.
The 14-year-old member of the Slieve Russell club near the town of Cavan in Co Cavan, Northern Ireland won a cut-and-thrust 36-hole final against Karla Spilkova (Czech Republic) that went all the way, by one hole.
Leona, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, who was the sixth qualifier for the match-play stages, thus won the Esmond Trophy. Spilkova was the No 9 qualifier.
Last year Leona won the Cartier Trophy for girls Under-18 who fail to qualify for the main championship.
Today that was won by 18-year-old Holly Clyburn from Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. Holly beat Spain's Noemi Jimenez Martin by 4 and 3 in the final.
Leona Maguire is the reigning Irish women's amateur champion. She beat sister Lisa in the final last year.
