Loreto College favourites to repeat Irish

Schoolgirls' Senior Cup victory

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Loreto College, Cavan’s teenage stars Leona and Lisa Maguire are strong favourites to successfully defend their Irish Schoolgirls’ Senior Cup title when play commences at Edmondstown Golf Club on Monday, April 27.
The pair won last year’s event at Milltown by a margin of 15 shots from Sligo’s Ursuline College but this year’s event promises to be a much tighter affair. Coincidently, nearest rivals to the Cavan twins will be another promising twosome in the form of the Coyne twins, Edel and Julie, representing Midleton College Cork. The Youghal pair qualified strongly in the Southern District qualifiers last month while nearest challengers Aisling Hill and Julie O’Gara from Mean Scoill Mhuire in Roscommon are also sure to feature in the final placings.
This year sees the introduction of a Junior Cup to encourage competition among the underage players. Mount Mercy College Cork look the strongest team on paper but Presentation Wexford and Victoria College, Belfast are sure to have a say in the destination of this year’s trophy.
Play commences at 9am on the Monday morning at Edmondstown with the best two Stableford gross scores from three to count.
