Stirlingshire No 3 seed Helen Goodwin

beaten by 14th qualifier Shona Gunn

Biggest upset in today's Stirlingshire women's county championship match-play at Linlithgow Golf Club, was the first-round defeat of the No 3 seed Helen Goodwin (Glenbervie) by the 14th qualifier, Shona Gunn (Falkirk Tryst).
Shona won by one hole.
Helen's mother, Elizabeth Goodwin (Glenbervie), the 10th best qualifier, also made an early exit but made a stout effort against the No 7 seed, Claire Capocci (Bridge of Allan). Claire was taken to the 19th before managing to win the tie.
Leading qualifier Mhairi Hall (Bathgate) advanced to Monday evening's quarter-finals with a 4 and 3 win over Maureen Shanks (West Lothian).
Title-holder Alison Davidson (Stirling) was unable to defend the title because of work commitments.
