again as she retains UBC girls' trophy

P&J photographer Sandy McCook's daughter Hannah put herself in the golfing picture again by winning the UBC girls' tournament for the second year in a row at McDonald Ellon Golf Club today.

Hannah, a 16-year-old three-handicap member of Abernethy Golf Club, Nethy Bridge, won the scratch trophy by one shot from Megan Clyne (Deeside) with a score of 83 in overcast, windy and sometimes wet conditions over a course with little or no run on the ball.

Hannah stuggled to the turn in 45 but came home in 38, compared with Megan who had halves of 43-41. They were level on the 18th tee but Hannah finished with a par 5 and Megan a bogey 6.

McCook, who won the North of Scotland girls' championship earlier this summer, is a member of the Northern Counties squad who will be bidding to win the Scottish women's county team championship at Baberton Golf Club, Edinburgh this coming weekend.

She will be going farther afield next month as a member of the Grampian Houston Junior Trip squad bound for a 10-day stay at Houston, Texas.

Jessica Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) would have tied with McCook on 83 but for running up a triple bogey 8 at the par-5 17th. She finished third with an 86.

Olivia Borwick, playing over her home course, won the handicap trophy with a net score of 75 off 17. Lauren Watson (Deeside) (27) was second on 76 and another Deeside junior, Vikki Powell (handicap 18) was third with a net 77, having a inward half than Kirsten MacCallum (Newburgh) (10) who also had a net 77.
