2007 Irish Womens Open Strokeplay Championship

Clandeboye Golf Club

Saturday 30 June & Sunday 1 July

Carlow’s Karen Delaney sets out to add the Irish Open Strokeplay Championship to her Irish Close victory in May when play commences on Saturday 30th June at Clandeboye Golf Club, Newtownards.

The 54 hole tournament has attracted an International field with GB&I players joining
competitors from Australia, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, New Zealand and Spain, some of which participated at the Espirito Santo World Cup in South Africa last November.

With a host of Irish Senior and Junior Internationals on show, Delaney will have to be at her best if she is to complete the double. In addition to a strong field of Irish Internationals finalising preparations for the Ladies European Team Championships in Italy, a handful of Australians will provide a stiff challenge for those hoping to lift the trophy. Karen’s younger sister Tara’s hopes of capturing an unprecedented 3rd title in 4 years will not be realised as she, along with England’s Liz Bennett, has withdrawn from the tournament following her selection on the Vagliano Trophy team who will train that weekend.

Two rounds of 18 holes will commence at 7.30am on Saturday morning with the top 40 plus ties making the final 18 holes on Sunday, culminating in the overight leaders teeing off at 12 noon.
