ALYTH GOLFERS CHIP IN TO RAISE FUNDS
FOR NINEWELLS BABY HUNT

Alyth Golf Club captain John Donnelly will hand over a cheque on Sunday for £10,000 to Ninewells Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit, Dundee.
The money was raised through a sponsored golf day at the Perthshire club, with 24 teams taking part. Following 18 holes, the golfers enjoyed dinner and were entertained by after-dinner speaker Dr Tom Dymock and comedian Jimmy Stirling.
The driving force behind the fund-raiser was managing club secretary Jim Docherty whose granddaughter Neve Younger was born 12 weeks premature, weighing a tiny 2lb 7oz.
Baby Neve spent a total of nine weeks in Ninewells Hospital, being cared for by staff in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), watched over by parents Ashley and Colin.
The special care baby unit at Ninewells is a regional intensive care unit providing care for babies from throughout Tayside and North-east Fife. Premature babies can be born up to 16 weeks early and weigh around the same as half a bag of sugar.
Alison Wright, Senior Nurse Neonatal Services, from the special care baby unit at Ninewells will accept the cheque from club captain John Donnelly.

Mr Donnelly said, “I am delighted by the response from my fellow members and the staff of Alyth Golf Club, the local business community, friends and family. I would also like to thank the golf clubs that donated tee-times for the prize draw and auction.

“Everyone gave so generously and rallied round Jim’s fundraiser making the event such a special and successful day.”

Receiving the cheque Alison said, “I would like to thank Alyth Golf Club for this very generous donation.

“In the unit we sometimes use special cots which have heated mattresses, these can benefit small babies.

“The cots are expensive and we plan to use this donation to purchase more."
