FRIDAY PLAY SUSPENDED AT LADIES BRITISH OPEN AMATEUR
AFTER EVEN MORE RAIN OVERNIGHT - AND IT HASN'T STOPPED YET!

Prolonged heavy rain overnight has put Friday's play in jeopardy at the Ladies British open amateur championship at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds. It was officially suspended until further notice when it was impossible to commence the eight third-round ties at the scheduled time of 8.30am.

The course which has drained superbly during the previous day and a half of relentless rain was showing signs early this morning that saturation point had been reached.
The first tee was badly affected by excess water.
Championship manager Fraser Munro and the head greenkeeper were due to go out and inspect the course before making a decision about play today.
Later it was announced that play had been suspended until further notice.
The championship should end with the semi-finals on Saturday morning and the 18-hole final on Saturday afternoon.
Whether the tournament could be extended into Sunday is a moot point with the international field having flights arranged out of the area on that day.
