KRYSTLE CAITHNESS SURVIVES VERY EARLY MORNING
PLAY-OFF - AND IT IS STILL RAINING AT ALWOODLEY

Scots teenager Krystle Caithness won her way through the very early-morning play-off to be the 62nd qualifier for the knock-out stages of the Ladies’ British open amateur golf championship at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds today.
An 11-player play-off for the last three places began at 8.45pm on Wednesday night in rain which had not relented since it first came on in the early afternoon.
When the play-off had been going on for over an hour, and the number of players had been whittled down to four, Ladies Golf Union tournament director Fraser Munro suspended play because of darkness and scheduled the resumption for 5.45am this morning.
It was still raining, incidentally, but fortunately only one hole was required to eliminate one player – Jessica Potter from Canada. She took a double bogey 6.
Krystle, who had the first par 4, claimed 62nd place in the draw; Sue Kim (Canada), who also had a 4, was No 63 and Kate Coombes from Australia took the 64th and final spot with a bogey 5.
Here are who the eight Scots qualifiers play in the first round later today:

8.18 Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon) (No 40 qualifier) v Hannah Barwood (Iknowle) (No 25).
8.42 Roseanne Niven (Crieff) (No 37) v Deirdre Smith (Co Louth (No 28).
9.22 Laura Murray (Alford) (No 29) v Hannah Burke (Mid Herts) (No 36).
9.38 Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) (No 62) v Jodi Ewart (Catterick) (No 3).
9.46 Heather MacRae (Dunblane New) (No 30) v Valentine Derrey (France) (No 35).
10.10 Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) (No 54) v Marion Bernard (France) No 11).
10.26 Sally Watson (Elie & Earlsferry) (No 38) v Valerie Sternebeck (Germany) (No 27).
10.50 Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) (No 26) v Thea Hoffmeister (Germany) (No 39).
