Monifieth girls' excellent season in 2008

Monifieth girls enjoyed another excellent season in 2008, from club level right through to internationl level., writes Aileen Hunter.
At club level the Ladies’ bronze champion was Heather Munro, and also Rebecca Wilson was runner up in the ladies’ Club Championship.
The ladies’ Two-Ball Shield was won by Alison Pryde and Katie Reid.
Another four of the ladies club prizes were won by Katie, including the Hazel Cruikshank Rosebowl, President’s Scratch Competition, Golf Foundation Brooch, and the IMF Thistle Brooch.
Heather Munro also picked up the SLGA Flag brooch (Bronze Catagory)

Jemma Chalmers won both Ann Hunter Trophy and Cath Cooper Memorial Trophy.
County Achievements
There were many county achievements this season. Louise Smith and Heather Munro jointly won the County Winter League and Andrea Bowie won the Junior Championship - three of the four semi-finalists were from Monifieth.
There was double success for Rebecca and Gail Wilson winning the county championships - Rebecca winning the Championship and Gail the handicap matchplay event.
Jemma Chalmers won the North of Scotland Handicap Championship at Strathmore along with the Downfield Ladies Open.
Ashley Smith won the County Scratch matchplay and Heather Munro won the handicap matchplay over the Old Course at Letham Grange.
The best aggregate over Junior Spring and Autumn Meeting - Royal Albert Rosebowl wqs won by Katie Rei, who has had a fantastic season reducing her handicap from 34 to 13!
Adult/Junior Modified Greensome at Edzell - 24 pairs from four different counties took part with Angus winning all but one prize. Claire Borthwick and Fiona Gilbert won the event.
National Achievements
At national level Ashley Smith was selected for the North Team at the Girls' Jamboree at Ballumbie.
The Scottish Under 18s championship at Alyth – Rebecca Wilson and Ashley Smith made it through to the championship draw. Rebecca reached the semi-finals and was beaten at the sixth extra hole! Heather Munro, Katie Reid, Louise Smith and Jemma Wilson qualified for the Ainsley Reid Salver.
Three of our junior girls were selected to be members of Scottish squads. Rebecca Wilson - National 'B' Squad, Gail Wilson and Heather Munro Junior Performance Squad.
International Achievements
Rebecca Wilson was capped three times. Firstly in the Junior European team event at Murcar in July. Then the Girls' Home Internationals at Panmure Barry in August, and finally as team captain in the strokeplay element of the British Girls Championship held at Monifieth in August.
