Pamela Pretswell backmarker at Prestwick on Sunday

West of Scotland championship

attracts largest entry for years

Sunday's West of Scotland women's (closed) amateur championship, to be hosted by Prestwick Golf Club, has attracted its largest entry for many years - some 48 players, all with handicaps of 10 and under.
Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) is unable to defend the title as she is being sent by the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association to play in the Welsh women's open amateur stroke-play at Royal Porthcawl this weekend.
The backmarker in the field with +2 of a handicap is Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle), pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency during the weekend "Helen Holm" tournament, holder of the Swiss women's amateur title, and she will have strong competition from former Scottish champion Anne Laing (Vale of Leven), still a scratch player, Clare-Marie Carlton (Fereneze), Sara Bishop (Windyhill) and Susan Wood (Drumpellier) to name but four.
The West of Scotland Ladies County Golf Association has presented a new team trophy for which each county in the West District will nominate three players (under-18 years) from whom the best two scores will count in each round.
Ayrshire are running this year's West championship.
+We hope to have scores and pictures from the championship on this website on Sunday evening.
