Top seeds Kathleen and Heather advance
in Angus county championship at Montrose
Scotland women’s veteran team-mates Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose) and Heather Anderson (Alyth), first and second seeds in the Angus women’s county championship golf draw, both made it through to next Sunday's semi finals at Montrose today (Sunday).
They are joined by last year's Angus order of merit winner Jackie Brown and 15 year old Ailsa Summers, daughter of former international Mary.
Home player Kathleen overcame clubmate 17-year-old Ashley Alston in the first round and then won a high-class match against Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) in the quarter-finals.
Ailsa survived the toughest game of the first round, beating fellow Carnoustie Ladies player Fiona Blair at the 19th, before beating Montrose member, Jane Grubb in the round of the last eight.
Jane had earlier beaten defending champion Rebecca Wilson (Monifieth) in the first round.
Jackie Brown knocked out Monifieth clubmate Aileen Hunter in the morning quarter-finals before beating Panmure Barry's Susan Arbuckle in the afternoon while former Downfield player Heather Anderson conquered Ann Hay (Edzell) in the morning and then beat Fiona Gilbert (Carnoustie Ladies) in another real tussle in the afternoon.
Next Sunday’s semi-finals line-up will be Sutherland v Summers and Brown v Anderson.
