Scottish Junior Golf Tour integrates girls and

English boys at Fairmont St Andrews

By WALTER BURNS
The Scottish Junior Golf Tour held a level 4, two -day event over the Torrance course at the Fairmont St Andrews resort at the weekend.
We invited some English juniors for a bit of extra competition and, for the first time, we integrated some of the girls into the competition.
Saturday morning saw St Andrews’ first frost of the year, threatening cancellation, but the sun came up, thawing out the course, and play began after an hour’s delay in fine sunny weather. Jamie Savage (Cawder) led after the first day with a 72.
On Sunday, a gale was blowing in from the North Sea with frequent squalls making for atrocious conditions. To minimize the risk of hypothermia we decided to reduce the competition to nine holes.
Congratulations to all 35 juniors for completing the nine holes with encouragement from parents, friends and coaches.
Dannyal Spalding from England won the event with a gross 111 (73, 38).
Jamie Savage (Cawder), Euan Bowden (Tantallon) and Craig Howie (Peebles) shared second place on 114.
Chris Kendall from Cumbria won the net first prize and Emma Greenlees ( Dumfries and Galloway) and Katie McGarva (Troon Ladies) were equal second.
It was another great weekend on the Scottish Junior Golf Tour with juniors displaying their usual spirit and determination
