O'REILLY DEFENDS IIRISH SENIORS CLOSE TITLE
AT PORTUMNA NEXT WEEK
Therese O’Reilly (Grange) will defend her ILGU Senior Ladies’ Close Championship at Portumna Golf Club on Tuesday 19th & Wednesday 20th June 2007.
The 36 hole championship is Open to all ladies affiliated to the ILGU who have celebrated their 50th birthday on or before 19th June 2007. In addition to Gross and Nett categories, prizes will be awarded to those over 60 and 70 at this year’s event.
The 36 hole tournament will be played over 18 holes on two consecutive days. Past Internationals Mary McKenna, Sheena O’Brien Kenney and Mary Gorry will join Marilyn Henderson and Valerie Hassett as a handful of players most likely to pose the greatest threat to O’Reilly’s title defence.An additional incentive for the field will be the valuable Order of Merit points on offer at this year’s Championship.
Following the Prizegiving on Wednesday, the Irish Team for the Senior Ladies European Team Championships, Royal Drottningholm, Sweden, 24-27 July will be announced which will be selected from the top 3 in the Order of Merit plus 3 wildcard selections made by Team Captain Rhona Fanagan.
