REBECCA WATSON FADES TO FINISH JOINT
41st IN LAS VEGAS COLLEGIATE SHOWDOWN

Edinburgh teenager Rebecca Watson subsided to a final placing of joint 41st in a field of 96 players at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdon over the Angel Park Mountain course in Nevada.
Rebecca, an 18-year-old freshman student at the University of Tennesse, had scores of 73, 77 and 76 for a total of 10-over-par 226 over the 6,050yd course.
Starting at the third hole in her final round, Rebecca reeled off a sequence of par figures and birdied the 11th to get one under par for the day. Then it all went wrong as bogeyed five of the last seven inward holes for a four-over-par 40 before she completed her round over the outward half.
Over the 54 holes, Miss Watson had one triple bogey (in the first round) and two double bogeys (in the second). She was two under par for three circuits of the outward half and 12 over par for three times round the inward nine.
Irish international Tara Delaney (Kent State) and Jodi Ewart (New Mexico) from Yorkshire tied for 11th place on 219. Tara scored 74, 71 and 74 while Jodi scored 75, 73 and 71. Tara birdied the second, eighth and 13th but hade five bogeys in halves of 37-37.
Jodi started at the 10th and birdied the 11th, 14th and 16th but had bogeys at the 13th and 15th. She parred her last 11 holes as she improved her overnight position of joint 25th.
Danielle McVeigh (Texas A&M) from Northern Ireland finished joint 17th on 220 with scores of 74, 73 and 73. Two double bogeys over the first 36 holes dragged her down but she did have a bag of eight birdies over the three rounds.
Denver produced the individual winner - Katie Kemper - and won the team title. Katie had scores of 67, 69 and 72 for eight-under-par 208 to win by three strokes from team-mate Chelsea Benton and Alison Walshe (Arizona) who both finished on 211.
