NIAMH KITCHING WINS ROYAL CO. DOWN SCRATCH CUP BY NINE SHOTS
Niamh Kitching (Claremorris) showed her class as she captured the Royal Co. Down Scratch Salver on Sunday 29th March by a winning margin of nine shots over the rest of the field.
Kitching led the field by three at the half way mark after signing for a three under par, 73 over the challenging links course which was made even more difficult with high winds persisting throughout the day. Royal Co. Down’s Danielle McVeigh was her closest challenger with a level par round of 76, but could only add an afternoon round of 84. A determined 78 in the second round by Kitching ensured victory by a margin of nine strokes for the University of Limerick student.
Kitching will now set her sights on defending both the Cork Scratch Cup, played next weekend, and the Munster Ladies Championship which tees-off in Shannon on April 8th.
