Lindy Duncan wins Women's Dixie

Amateur by five strokes

NEWS RELEASE
Duke University star and Davie, Florida resident Lindy Duncan, pictured right in action, took on a chilly windswept 6,400 yd course at Heron Bay Golf Club, Coral Springs, Florida along with a sensational field and beat them both back handily.
Duncan's fourth and final round of one over par 73 gave her a five-stroke victory with a four-under-par total of 284. Lindy, who will be 19 on January 16, was the only player to finish under the par of 288 for four laps of the par-72 course.
England's girl champion Holly Clyburn, 18, from Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire and Coral Springs' Junior Orange Bowl girls' champion Alexis Thompson, only 14, finished joint runners-up on 289. Holly finished with two rounds of 75 while Alexis had closing scores of 73 and 78.
Nova Southeastern University's Sandra Changkija of Orlando and Auburn's Candace Schepperle of Birmingham, Alabama, the 2008 Dixie Amateur Champion, tied for fourth at 291.
Isabelle Lendl of Bradenton, Florida moved into seventh place with a 69, the final day's best round.
"The field strength of this year's Women's Dixie was spectacular and featured nine highly-ranked international players," said Tournament Director Jeff Hunt. "Having Lindy Duncan's name on our Championship Trophy is an honour.
"Mark my words, every winner of the Women's Dixie has gone on to play well on the LPGA Tour, and adding Lindy to the list with Alexis and Candace insures the Dixie's unprecedented streak of LPGA players will continue when each of their time comes for turning pro."added Hunt.
