SCOTLAND FINISH DISAPPOINTING 12th
OF 14 IN TOYOTA WORLD BOYS' TEAM
CHAMPIONSHIP IN JAPAN

Scotland’s second-half slump in the world boys’ team golf championship continued on the fourth and final day when their team score of 226 was their worst of the week and the poorest by any of the 14 countries in the fourth round.
Their counting scores (best three from four) on the last day over the 6,846yd, par-71 course, were a 73 by James Byrne, a 76 by Michael Stewart and a 77 by Shaun McAllister. Paul Ferrier had the non-counting score of 79.
The Scots’ 72-hole total of 20 over par 872 gave them a very disappointing final position of 12 of 14 in the table, with only Singapore and Venezuela behind us.
Sweden, second to Norway last year, turned the tables on their Scandinavian rivals and won the title with an impressive tally of 29-under-par 823 – nine strokes ahead of the defending champions Norway.
Norway provided the leading individual boy in Anders Kristiansen with a 14-under-par total of 270.
James Byrne from Banchory was Scotland’s best player over the four rounds with scores of 73, 65, 75 and 73 for a two-over-par total of 286 and joint 20th place in the final standings.
Michael Stewart from Troon Welbeck dipped in his final round with scores of 67, 72, 72 and 76 for three-over-par 287 and a share of 25th place.
Shaun McAllister (Craigielaw) finished 52nd in the boys’ field of 56 with scores of 74, 75, 75 and 77 for 17-over-par 301.
Scottish boys’ match-play champion Paul Ferrier (Baberton) came 55th on 27-over-par 311 with scores of 72, 85, 75 and 79.
