AA INSURANCE LADIES CHAMPIONSHIPS
ARDEE GOLF CLUB
MIDLAND DISTRICT –V- NORTHERN DISTRICT (PLAY OFF)

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
The AA Insurance Junior Cup team from Enniscorthy secured their place at the National semi finals and finals in Limerick Golf Club, 26th – 28th September, beating Dunmurry by 4 matches to 1.
Courtown were next to progress to the National finals, beating Shandon Park 3 and 2 in the AA Insurance Intermediate Cup.
In an exciting, closely contested match, two matches went down the 19th, one in favour of each team.
With the contest level and one match remaining, Siobhan Freeney secured the vital point for Courtown, beating Shandon Park’s Cindy Loughins by 1 hole.
Carlow were the third Midland team through to the finals at Limerick, beating City of Derry in the AA Insurance Minor Cup.
Carlow had convincing wins in the top two matches but City of Derry won the third match on the 19th to remain in the contest. However, Carlow proved a strong team by winning their remaining 2 matches and progress to the finals.
Tara Glen was victorious the AA Insurance Challenge Cup match against Donaghadee. Donaghadee started the day well, with Loraine Ward in devastating form, winning her match 9 and 8 but Tara Glen had the edge on the day to win the contest 3˝ to 1˝.
Shandon Park ensured a Northern presence at the finals winning the Senior Foursomes impressively against a much fancied Carlow side with two current Internationals in their team. Shandon Park secured victory by winning the second and third matches by 4&2 and 6&4 respectively.
Moate secured a place at the finals, defeating Ardglass in the Junior Foursomes. In another closely fought contest Moate just had the edge and won by 2 matches to 1.
