Alexis Thompson (14)

leaves The Sally field

trailing in her wake

Alexis Thompson, the 14-year-old United States girls champion from Coral Springs, Florida, has turned "The Sally" - the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur Championship - into a one-horse race after only two rounds of the second event on the Orange Blossom Tour at Oceanside Country Club, Ormond Beach in Florida.
Alexis, pictured above, pipped for both the Junior Orange Bowl girls' title and the Dixie Women's Amateur over the festive period in her home state, looks certain to win this one.
She has shot rounds of 68 and 70 over the par-72 course for a 36-hole tally of 138, which is eight shots clear of the next best player, Canadian Kira Meixner from British Columbia with a pair of 73s.
US Curtis Cup captain Carol Semple Thompson, a senior category golfer, has turned the years back with scores of 74 and 73 to be lying third on 147.
Scotland international Laura Murray (Alford), a student at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and Rachel Connor, daughter of Scots-born Manchester club professional Brian Connor, are the leading British players in a tie for fifth place on 152.
Laura has scored 74 and 78, Rachel 75 and 77.
Scottish Under-21 girls champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), a student at Stirling University), is in 10th place on 154 with a pair of 77s.
Stirling team-mate Rachel Cassidy from Dublin is tied for 15th place with 81 and 76 for 157.
Another Stirling student Harriet Beasley from Woburn is in joint 29th place with 81 and 82 for 163.
